GM Shares Eye Worst Week Since 2023 Amid Wider Autos Selloff

General Motors Co. shares are on track for their worst weekly performance since 2023, contributing to a broad decline in the automotive sector. This downturn occurred despite a backdrop of bullish sentiment from Wall Street analysts who are reinforcing their positive ratings on the automaker. The significant share price depreciation suggests prevailing market sentiment is heavily weighing on GM, potentially due to broader industry headwinds or specific company concerns not detailed in this report. Investors are closely monitoring the situation for signs of stabilization or further decline.

GM Analysts Say Buy the Dip as Stock Eyes Worst Week Since 2025

Despite General Motors Co. stock heading for its worst weekly performance in over 20 months, Wall Street analysts are maintaining a positive outlook, advising investors to "buy the dip." This contrarian view suggests that the current stock price may not reflect the company's long-term value or future prospects. Analysts are likely factoring in potential catalysts such as upcoming product launches, strategic initiatives, or a general market recovery that could drive the stock higher from its current lows. Investors are encouraged to view the recent downturn as a potential entry opportunity.

GM simulated 300,000 EV battery designs—using 34,000 years of computer time—before building a single cell. Now comes the physical part

General Motors has revealed its extensive use of simulation in developing next-generation electric vehicle batteries, reportedly processing 300,000 designs using 34,000 years of computational time before physical cell construction. This advanced simulation approach, showcased at GM Forward, highlights the company's commitment to technological innovation and efficiency in its EV battery development process. While this signifies a forward-thinking strategy to de-risk and optimize R&D, the actual impact on production and sales remains to be seen as the physical manufacturing phase is yet to commence.

GM Slides as CEO Barra Warns of ‘Intensifying’ Challenges

General Motors Co. shares experienced a decline following CEO Mary Barra's cautionary remarks regarding 'intensifying' industry challenges. While the company announced an expanded $20 billion stock repurchase program, investors reacted negatively to a revised 2026 adjusted earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) forecast. The new range of $14.5 billion to $15.5 billion is narrower than the previously projected $14 billion to $16 billion. This outlook suggests potential headwinds and increased competitive pressures that could impact future profitability, overshadowing the share buyback initiative.

Here’s why GM’s stock is having its worst day in over a year

General Motors' stock experienced its steepest decline in over a year following the company's decision to lower its full-year profit outlook. This downward revision is attributed to plans to temporarily halt production of certain truck models. The revised forecast signals potential headwinds in the crucial truck segment, impacting the company's revenue and profitability projections. Investors are reacting negatively to the reduced earnings guidance, reflecting concerns about demand and production efficiency in the near term.

GM Narrows 2026 Profit Forecast, Boosts Share Buyback

General Motors has revised its 2026 profit forecast downwards due to softening sales, but concurrently announced an expanded share buyback program of an additional $20 billion. This dual announcement presents a mixed signal for investors. While the narrowed profit outlook suggests potential headwinds for the automotive giant, the significant boost to the share repurchase plan indicates management's confidence in the company's underlying value and its commitment to returning capital to shareholders. The market will likely weigh the impact of sales trends against the potential for increased earnings per share through buybacks.

GM CEO Mary Barra is unfazed by the electric slowdown: ‘We still think EVs are the end game’

Despite a perceived slowdown in the electric vehicle (EV) market, General Motors CEO Mary Barra remains committed to EVs as the 'end game.' This statement suggests that GM will continue its long-term investment and strategic focus on electric mobility, even amidst current market fluctuations. Investors should note that while short-term demand for EVs may be softening, GM's strategic direction indicates a persistent belief in the future dominance of electric vehicles, potentially positioning the company for long-term growth in this sector.
