The closest overlap with M&T: a similarly sized regional bank with branches across New England, New York and the Mid-Atlantic, competing branch by branch for retail deposits, mortgages and middle-market commercial lending.
A larger super-regional that covers the same Mid-Atlantic markets — Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, Washington D.C. — and bids for the same corporate and commercial real estate clients.
Competes head-on in upstate New York, M&T's home market, for retail and small-business deposits as well as commercial lending, and sits in M&T's own disclosed banking peer group.
A regional bank of comparable scale with a strong small-business and commercial franchise that now pushes into M&T's northeastern markets, and a member of the same disclosed peer group.
Overlaps with M&T along the Virginia–Maryland–Washington D.C. corridor, competing for the same retail branch customers and commercial banking relationships.
A peer-sized regional bank offering the same mix of retail, commercial and wealth services to middle-market companies and affluent households, and a benchmark competitor in M&T's stated peer group.

M&T Bank Corp (MTB) is set to report its first-quarter earnings on April 15th, with analysts projecting an Earnings Per Share (EPS) of $4.00 and revenue of $2.42 billion. The company recently announced a significant $5 billion share buyback program, which typically signals management's confidence in the company's financial health and can be a positive catalyst for the stock. However, recent analyst ratings show a mixed sentiment, with firms like Wells Fargo and Morgan Stanley maintaining 'Equal-Weight' ratings, while Piper Sandler upgraded its rating to 'Overweight' in January 2022. This divergence in analyst views suggests uncertainty about the bank's immediate prospects.
